Why Chuy’s? The Austin Legacy Comes to Argyle

Chuy’s isn’t just another chain restaurant. On April 16, 1982, founders Mike Young and John Zapp opened the first Chuy’s in a former barbecue joint on Barton Springs Road in Austin. It grew into a Tex-Mex chain of about 100 locations across 15 states, known for its one-of-a-kind décor at each restaurant, from hand-carved wooden fish to Elvis memorabilia. The company’s motto is “If you’ve seen one Chuy’s, you’ve seen one Chuy’s.”

In October 2024, Darden Restaurants (parent of Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and The Capital Grille) acquired Chuy’s in a $605 million all-cash transaction.

What to Order

Chuy’s says its food is made from scratch daily. Some of the dishes it’s best known for:

  • “Big As Yo’ Face” burritos: a foot-long flour tortilla stuffed with your choice of fillings
  • Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas: roasted chicken, cheese, and green chiles with Boom-Boom sauce
  • Elvis Presley Memorial Combo: a combo plate named for The King
  • Hand-rolled enchiladas with a choice of sauces, including Tex-Mex, tomatillo, and Hatch green chile
  • Creamy Jalapeño dip: a favorite of regulars
  • Margaritas made with fresh-squeezed lime juice

Menus, prices, and hours change, so check Chuy’s directly. Vegetarian options and dietary modifications are available; ask your server.

Part of Harvest Town Center

Chuy’s joins an expanding center at I-35W and FM 407:

Open now:

  • Tom Thumb: 63,000 square feet, open since March 6, 2026
  • Chuy’s Tex-Mex
  • McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, and Chase Bank

Harvest Town Center is being built in two phases totaling 138,000 square feet. Phase 1 is complete. Phase 2 could add more restaurants, another bank, and other retail, and no Phase 2 tenants have been announced. See our Harvest Town Center guide for the latest, and our Tom Thumb guide.

Why This Matters for Harvest and Pecan Square Residents

Quality sit-down restaurants lagged behind residential growth in southern Denton County for years. Chuy’s brings full-service dining to a center that already has a grocery store, a bank, and quick-service restaurants. For residents of Harvest, Pecan Square, Treeline, and Argyle, it’s a closer option than driving to Denton.

We live along this corridor, and buyers often ask us about restaurants, shopping, and date-night options. For most of them, “Chuy’s and Tom Thumb at Harvest Town Center” is a simple answer. We can’t promise what any of it does to home values, but everyday convenience is something buyers weigh.
