What is StarCenter Multisport Northlake, and how could it affect nearby real estate?
Children’s Health StarCenter Multisport Northlake is a $45 million, 225,000-square-foot sports facility at 13850 Chadwick Parkway in Northlake that opened March 31, 2026. It has two NHL-regulation ice rinks, eight basketball courts that convert to 16 volleyball courts, and other training and recreation space. The Town of Northlake owns it, funded by voter-approved bonds, and the Dallas Stars operate it. The town and the Stars estimate about 1.3 million visitors a year. For nearby homeowners and buyers it could mean more recreation, dining, and traffic. What it does to home values is something nobody can promise.

The Facility
Children’s Health StarCenter Multisport Northlake is the 11th StarCenter in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and combines ice and multisport space under one roof. The town broke ground in April 2024 and held a grand opening on March 31, 2026, with public skating, open gym, hockey showcases, a high school hockey game, and autograph signings by former Dallas Stars players and Dallas Pulse volleyball players.
Inside:
- Two NHL-regulation ice rinks for hockey, figure skating, and public skating
- Eight basketball courts that convert to 16 volleyball courts
- Pickleball and other courts (confirm current details with the facility)
- Spectator viewing areas and a weight training room
- Locker rooms and The Shark Shack concession stand
- The Shark Club Sports Bar and Grill, attached to the facility, which was expected to open in June 2026 (confirm its current status)
One rink is named for Mayor Brian Montini, who championed the project, and the other for former Dallas Stars player and general manager Joe Nieuwendyk. The two gyms are named for local athletes. “Today is a milestone moment for the Town of Northlake,” Montini said at the opening.
The facility offers public skating, youth and adult leagues, tournaments, and training. Dallas Stars President and CEO Brad Alberts said the area was one where the Stars didn’t have a footprint before. Hours and programming are at starcentermultisport.com/northlake.
Why Northlake, and How It Was Funded
Northlake leaders described the facility as a community asset and an economic development tool, a “catalyst” for adjacent development in the Highway 114 corridor, in the words of Town Manager Drew Corn. The town funded it with voter-approved general obligation bonds, and the Dallas Stars operate it. Residents had told the town they wanted more retail, dining, and amenities.
Chadwick Farms: The Planned Development Next Door
Next to the StarCenter, Western Securities plans Chadwick Farms, a roughly 60-acre mixed-use development. According to the developer’s statements to Community Impact, plans include:
- Up to about 900 multifamily units, with an initial phase of about 300
- A hotel with 150+ rooms and a conference center
- About 60,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space
Western Securities already operates apartment communities in Northlake. It said retailers and restaurants could begin opening in late 2026, with apartments coming in phases. These are plans, and timing and tenants can change. The developer’s estimate is that the StarCenter and Chadwick Farms together could draw about 1.3 million people a year.
What Could This Mean for Real Estate?
Large amenities can matter to buyers, and they can also bring trade-offs. Here’s what we can and can’t say.
What it could mean:
- Convenience. Year-round skating, courts, leagues, and training close to home matter to many families, especially with kids in sports.
- More nearby dining and retail if Chadwick Farms is built as planned.
- More visitors and traffic, especially on tournament weekends and around Highway 114 and I-35W. Some buyers see that as vibrancy, and others prefer a quieter location, so visit at busy times.
- More rental housing in the area, if the planned apartments are built.
What we can’t say:
- Home values. We can’t promise that the facility raises nearby prices. Values depend on interest rates, inventory, the broader economy, and the specific home, and past amenity openings aren’t a reliable guide.
- Which communities benefit. Where buyers choose to live depends on schools, price, commute, and lifestyle.
- Timing. Planned retail and housing may open later than projected.
If you’re buying: weigh it as one factor among schools, price, commute, HOA and tax costs, and the home itself. See our Alliance Corridor community guide.
If you’re selling: proximity to amenities like this is a selling point for some buyers. We can look at how it fits your home.
If you’re an investor: do your own research on Chadwick Farms’ timeline and the retail and rental market, and talk with a lender and advisor. We’re real estate professionals, not financial advisors.
