There are closing days, and then there are closing days.
On June 26, 2026, the Bennett's signed the final papers, picked up their keys, and walked through the front door of their brand new Highland Homes Kent Plan — becoming the first homeowners at Landmark by Hillwood in Denton, Texas.
We have been in real estate long enough to know that not every closing hits you the same way. This one hit differently. Because on December 13, 2025, before a single model home was open, before most people had even heard of Landmark by Hillwood, we sat across from the Bennett's and wrote the very first contract ever signed in this community.
From that blank page to those keys — this is their story.
Why the Bennett's Said Yes First
When Wellington and Nancy came to us, they weren't just looking for a bigger home. They were building toward something.
Nancy grew up in a community that did it right — the kind of neighborhood where there were events on the calendar, neighbors who knew each other's names, and kids who roamed freely through green spaces and came home when the streetlights came on. She looks back on those years with real fondness. And when she imagined her daughter's childhood, she knew that was the standard she was chasing.
Landmark by Hillwood checked every box.
The nature preserve. The trails winding through 1,100 acres of protected land anchored by Pilot Knob — the highest natural point in Denton County at 839 feet. The vision of a community that would one day have its own schools, retail, restaurants, and gathering spaces. This wasn't just a house purchase. For the Bennetts, it was a declaration: this is the kind of childhood we want for our family.
As move-up buyers ready for more space for a growing family, they also understood the strategic advantage of moving early. Being first meant full lot selection. Every floor plan on the table. All nine builders to choose from. The Bennetts didn't stumble into Landmark — they made a deliberate, faith-filled decision to plant their flag before anyone else did.
The Pioneer Advantage
There is something unique about being the first buyer in a community. It requires a kind of vision that most people simply don't have — the ability to look at raw land and see home.
The Bennett's had that vision.
And because they moved when others were still waiting to see how things would develop, they had access to the full inventory of lots, orientations, and options. They chose their builder. They chose their floor plan. They chose their lot. By the time the community opens to the wider market and hundreds of families begin making their move to Landmark, the Bennett's will already be home.
That is what it means to pioneer a community. And we were honored to guide them through every step of it.
The Journey — Milestone by Milestone
📸 First Contract Signing — December 13, 2025
On December 13, 2025, Paige and I sat down with Wellington and Nancy and signed the first contract ever executed at Landmark by Hillwood — the Highland Homes Kent Plan. It was a quiet moment that felt anything but small. We knew what we were holding.
📸 Pre-Design Meeting — January 7, 2026
As the build process began, we showed up to the pre-design meeting with something a little extra — custom Landmark by Hillwood water bottles, a small gesture to mark the beginning of what we already knew was going to be a special journey.
📸 Pre-Drywall Inspection — April 3, 2026
This is the moment we will never forget.
Before the walls went up — before the insulation, the drywall, the paint, all of it — we gathered at the Bennett home with Paige and wrote six scriptures and a welcome directly onto the wooden studs:
- Matthew 6:33 — "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
- Matthew 7:20 — "By their fruit you will recognize them."
- James 1:5 — "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach."
- Psalm 37:4 — "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
- Proverbs 16:3 — "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established."
- Psalm 55:22 — "Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you."
And beneath them all, three words:
Welcome to Landmark.
Those words are still in the walls of that home. They always will be.
📸 Home Orientation — June 18, 2026
Weeks before closing, we walked the Bennett's through their completed home — room by room, detail by detail — making sure every finish, every fixture, and every feature was exactly what they envisioned. The walk-through is where a build transforms into a home in your mind.
📸 Closing Day — June 26, 2026
On June 26, 2026, it was done. Wellington and Nancy Bennett signed their names, received their keys, and became the first homeowners at Landmark by Hillwood.
We didn't take a single day of that six-month journey for granted.
What Landmark Will Become
The Bennetts didn't just buy a home in a great neighborhood. They bought into one of the most ambitious master-planned communities ever developed in North Texas.
Landmark by Hillwood spans 3,200 acres in Denton, with a projected economic impact of $10 billion. Over 1,100 acres — roughly one-third of the entire development — are permanently preserved as parks, trails, and open space, anchored by the Cross Timbers forest at Pilot Knob. Nine builders are active in Phase 1. Argyle ISD and Northwest ISD both serve the community. And Denton's first H-E-B is opening just down the road at I-35W and Robson Ranch Road in early 2027.
The community Nancy dreamed of for her children — the one with events, with trails, with neighbors who become friends — is going to be one of the most remarkable places to grow up in all of North Texas.
The Bennetts will have been there from the very beginning.
Your Landmark Story Starts Here
If the Bennett story resonates with you — if you've been watching Landmark from a distance and wondering whether now is the right time — we'd love to have that conversation.
We wrote the first contract at Landmark. We know the builders, the lots, the floor plans, and the process. And we would be honored to walk your family through it the same way we walked the Bennetts through theirs.
For the glory of God and the good of others. 🙏
